MOVIE: Failure To Launch

While in Canada, my friends and I went to see Failure to Launch starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew McConaughey, Zooey Deschanel & Kathy Bates, just to name a few cast members. Click here to check out the official website and trailer. I think the critics have been a little harsh on this film - it is an offbeat romantic comedy that delivers laughs in a light-hearted manner. Light being the key point - it is a feel good movie, with some 'odd' characters, a simple plot & with a somewhat original theme. It is not a movie that will make you reflect about life or ponder any complex feelings but it might make you laugh with its goofy kind of humour.

Actually, I found that Sarah Jessica Parker's (Paula) character was quite similar to Carrie on Sex and the City - giving the impression of confidence & dedication to her "chosen" profession. At first glance, she "appears" to have-it-all-together: has what "seems" like a logical plan, a rather unusual idea for a business and, at times, a somewhat twisted way of achieving her goals. But then she makes a terrible faux pas, breaching ONE of her essential ethical rules which causes a chain of events :) - that's just me trying to build up the suspense.

My personal favourite character from this film was Zooey Deschanel who plays Kit, a dry, monotoned, gloomy, emotionless character, who just made me laugh, cackle & snort throughout the movie - perfectly done. She was the highlight of this movie, giving it the write touch of hilarity.
